What is the criteria for membership?

Eligibility criteria:
1. At least 18 years old
2. Able to follow instructions, adapt to frequent transitions without support, does not wander or elope
3. Able to self-care (independently manage toileting, eating and simple clean-up)
4. Does not require one-on-one assistance due to physical, cognitive or medical needs

Other factors are daily capacity (member-to-staff ratio), member-community fit, mission-alignment and family/parent involvement, etc. TSC utilizes an enrollment assessment tool that incorporates objective and subjective criteria.

Is Medicaid Waiver accepted? Private pay?

We accept self-directed COMP/NOW waivers and family support from BDI and InCommunity. We accept private pay and if criteria is met, scholarships may be available for 3 Day attendees case by case. Please contact Mary@theshinecommunity.

What is the application / membership process?

1. Please make sure the membership requirement is met.
2. Go to the “become a member” page and submit the information.
3. An application will be sent to your email for you to submit for review.
4. Upon review, an in-person assessment is scheduled for when the family can also check out our normal day.
5. The family is notified to be waitlisted or for a 30-day trial if space is available.
6. A decision is made with the family for an official enrollment after the trial period.

What are your operating hours? Do you provide transportation or lunch?

We operate MTWF 10-2:30. We do not provide transportation or lunch.

What is your policy for verbal or physical aggression?

We do not tolerate verbal or physical aggression. We give two warnings before suspension but depending on the severity, the suspension could be immediate.

Does TSC provide support for waiver services?

Yes, waiver support services are available for members of TSC and donations are requested for services requiring more than an hour/month. All donations are tax-deductible and proceeds are invested in our work program.
