What are the operating hours?
TSC is open 10am-2:30pm, MTWF (Closed Thursdays) from August to May. We normally operate similar to the Gwinnett County school calendar (Aug-Dec; Jan-May). We offer various camps in July but closed in June.
Does TSC accept Medicaid Waivers? Private pay?
We accept participant-directed COMP/NOW and Family Support from BDI and InCommunity. For private pay, please contact Mary (mary@theshinecommunity.com) for options.
How can I become a member?
Please review our criteria and submit an inquiry form via online. A TSC staff will get in touch with initial questions & if it appears to be a fit, the family will be scheduled for an in-person assessment and tour. Afterwards, the participant will be scheduled for a trial week prior to being enrolled.
TSC is a very active learning program. While 1:10 or 1:15 staff to member ratio is common, we maintain 1:3 -1:5 ratio for MWF and 1:2 for Life Skill Tuesdays. Due to the staffing needs, a member is required to register for three days a week and invoiced for registered days.
Are lunch and transportation provided?
No and no. For various occasions such as birthday celebrations and events, we notify families if lunch is provided. For outings, transportation is usually included but for camps, drop-off/pick-up is required at the campsite. For convenience, we sometimes arrange rides for a fee.
Do you have to be a TSC member to attend outings and camps?
Due to the number of staff needed to ensure learning and safety, we plan ahead and limit the number of participants to staff ratio. If we have cancellations, we can offer open slots to non-members at non-member rate.
